Lagerstroemia 'Tonto' Japanese Crepe Myrtle
'Tonto' is one of several mildew resistant hybrids. It is a deciduous, upright, spreading, multi-stemmed shrub. Features dark green foliage turning dull red to reddish purple in fall, beige bark which exfoliates with age and crepe-papery, 6-7" long panicles of bright magenta flowers from mid-summer to early fall. Flowers give way to round seed capsules which often persist well into winter. Shrubs stay smaller in northern climates.
